Krystal and Thomas’ micro-wedding at Tuscany Falls in Mokena, Illinois was such a perfect reminder of why I love photographing intimate celebrations. Their day was filled with personality from Converse sneakers to the late-night pizza party. It was the perfect example of how micro-weddings give couples (and photographers!) the flexibility to pivot when the unexpected happens.
Tuscany Falls Banquets in Mokena, Illinois is a stunning venue known for its elegant ballrooms, romantic gazebo, and Tuscan-inspired architecture. The couple chose to share a first look outside, surrounded by greenery, before the rain rolled in. We took full advantage of the gazebo for portraits, and it couldn’t have been a sweeter start to their day.
I absolutely loved the personal touches that Krystal and Thomas included. Both the bride and groom wore all white Converse while the wedding party wore green ones. This choice provided a fun and comfortable twist on traditional wedding shoes. Their color scheme of green and black looked modern and bold, a perfect match for their style.

Originally, the ceremony was set to take place outside by the gazebo. But just before it began, the rain settled in, and we had to make quick adjustments. This is where a micro-wedding really shines: with a smaller guest count, it’s so much easier to pivot. Tuscany Falls offered a seamless indoor backup option, and within minutes the ceremony was set up inside.
As a photographer, this is one of the moments where I had to think on my feet. Lighting, angles, and schedule all shifted in real time, but capturing the emotion of their vows and the joy on their guests’ faces was what mattered most. And honestly? The intimacy of the indoor ceremony ended up being just as magical.
After the ceremony, the reception kicked off with some unforgettable moments. Krystal and Thomas played the classic “shoe game,” sitting back-to-back and raising each other’s shoes to answer funny questions about their relationship; the guests (& myself included) were laughing nonstop. Dinner was a delicious choice between steak or chicken, but the real crowd-pleaser came later: pizza was brought out after the dance floor opened, fueling the party well into the night. And who doesn’t love Chicago style pizza?

Krystal and Thomas’ day is such a perfect example of why micro-weddings in Illinois (and anywhere!) are worth considering. With fewer guests, couples can focus on the details that reflect their personality, like Converse and fun games. They also have more flexibility when weather or timing throws a curveball. Instead of stress, their day was full of joy, laughter, and celebration.
Photographing this Tuscany Falls wedding reminded me that love stories aren’t about everything going perfectly. They’re about creating meaningful moments, no matter what. Rain or shine, Krystal and Thomas’ day was unforgettable, and I feel so grateful to have been the one to capture it.
